XXXVI Rally Elba Storico-Trofeo Locman Italy: Salvini-Tagliaferri (Porsche) leaders.
The Tuscan driver takes the lead with a 16.3-second in front of Da Zanche-De Luis (Porsche, category 2) at the end of the first leg. Third place for Lombardo-Consiglio, Porsche (category 2).
Capoliveri (Isola d’Elba-Livorno, ITALY) September 27, 2024 – Great start, for the XXXVI Rally Elba Storico-Trofeo Locman Italy, which took place on the island's asphalt ways, featuring the protagonists of the FIA European Historic Rally Championship and the Italian Historic Rally Championship, seventh event of the season for both series.
Five special stages were contested on this first day, with Alberto Salvini finishing leader with a time of 44:16.1, overtaking Lucio Da Zanche on SS5, who had initially taken the lead from the first SS.
It was a very positive first day for the tuscan driver from Siena, with his co driver Davide Tagliaferri in a Porsche Carrera RS, steadily closed the gap on Bormio's Lucio Da Zanche, co-driven by Daniele De Luis, who slipped second overall at 16.3-second. Both drivers set the fastest times in two of the five stages, and they will be the main focus tomorrow in the decisive day of the race.
Provisional third place for Angelo Lombardo, who set the fastest time on the "Due Mari" in another 2nd Group Porsche, with Roberto Consiglio. Lombardo was slowed down on the second stage by technical problems (brakes) with his car. Behind the sicilian driver, Valter Pierangioli takes the provisional fourth place, leading the 4th category with Arianna Ravano with their Ford Sierra Cosworth 4x4, in front of the local crew of Francesco Bettini and Luca Acri (Lancia Delta Integrale), second overall last year. In sixth place "Zippo", Audi Quattro with his codriver Nicola Arena, leader of the 3rd category.
Giuliano Palmieri, with Lucia Zambiasi (Porsche 911 S), is the the category 1 leader standings with a time of 54:05.9, ahead of the twin car of Spain's Jesus Diez Villarroel with co-driver Carmelo Cappello, and the BMW 2002 TI of Carlo Fiorito and Nicolò Ventoso. However, it was an unfortunate first day for Antonio Parisi, forced to retire for mechanical problems on SS4 with his Porsche 911 S, codrivered by Giuseppe D'Angelo.
The challenges of the XXXVI Rally Elba Storico-Trofeo Locman Italy will continue tomorrow Saturday, September 28. The second leg, will be five more special stages, including "Innamorata" (SS6 – 9:30; SS9 – 13:30), "Volterraio" (SS7 – 10:30), "Bagnaia-Cavo" (SS8 – 10:50), and the long "Volterraio-Cavo" (SS10 – 14:30 for 27 Km). The final arrival will be at 16:00, with prize giving ceremony in the centre of Capoliveri.
